Yes, I would buy a GPS unit with a Trail Spider Web Laser (patent pending). I know, I know spiders serve a function and without them insects would take over the world… but walking along a trail and getting a head full of spider web just freaks me out.

As for accuracy- I always try to follow the rule that once you get to a certain distance you need to put the GPS away and just look around.  I rarely follow this rule, but I do think its a good idea (kind of like speed limits).  I’ve been working with my students dealing with Social Studies Standard 5.3.1 so it was time to beg & borrow enough GPS units for small groups and set up a few training geocaches in the school’s outdoor lab.  I was luck enough to get 6 Magellan Explorist 100 units which definitely took me back.  They work well, but I’ve gotten spoiled with the accuracy of even the iPad in comparison.  It might just be my imagination… I set the caches up with the Explorist and haven’t gone ahead and tried to find them with my Oregon.  I’ll have to do that next week.

I hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.

  1. I love the color in your comic strips! Your new fancy smancy GPS needs an instant poison ivy zapper also! Keep up the great work and have a super weekend yourself!

  2. I *love* the web-zapper!! But why the raccoon, Bruce… for the love of Pete, WHY??!!! 😉

  3. Or perhaps Cecil’s fancy new GPS is being jammed. He needs another GAJT. (shameless plug for one of our products) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUX4gjllEnM
