For those who might not know it, I live in Indianapolis, Indiana, home for the next week to the “Super Bowl.” The greatest spectacle in… something. Sue, Cecil, and I went down yesterday to see “Super Bowl Village” and what they have done to downtown to prepare for the fans of the New England Patriots and New York Giants… and the corporations and individuals who have enough money to afford a ticket. As a non-Finnish public school teacher & cartoonist let me say I am not one of those who can attend- nor would I want to if given the chance.
Having researched geeks I do know that there are a wide variety of classes including the “Sports Geek.” These are the folks who for some strange reason feel that civil pride revolves not around how clean their city is, how good the schools are, but how their specific sports team does. If this makes you happy, I am glad you have found your bliss. If you are not part of this subgroup of geeks-Be prepared, they can become violent if their team doesn’t do well and have been known to tease & bully those who don’t follow their beliefs. Think of it as the whole Marvel vs. DC debate, but with the possibility of bloodshed. I’m sorry but I guess I just think there are more important things than how many times a ball goes across a line, or ends up in a net. Bread & Circuses…
To those coming to Indianapolis- enjoy this town that I call home, there are some wonderful things that make it a place I don’t mind. For those who have chosen to support some team wearing a shade of blue – may the best team win and I hope no one gets hurt (Although I still think it would be a lot more challenging playing without pads & helmets).
Technically you might have noticed the new header, the precursor for a complete website design change… but since it took me over a year to get this done, don’t expect the change for a while. I also have switched the paper I am using to draw on. I have been using Blueline Pro Strathmore 300 series comic strip paper. I am still using the same kind of paper (Strathmore 300) but I’m trying out Strathmore’s pads of comic strip paper which do not come printed with non-photo blue lines to help line things up. As I get used to this change there might be some glitches… but I think the overall result will be better and allow me to (pardon the pun) think outside the box.
