Those who know me, are my friends on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter know that when I watch TV it tends to be BBC America or Discovery.  Torchwood, Dr. Who, Top Gear, are just a few of the shows try not to miss.  While in England I thought it would be great I could catch all my favorite shows before they are broadcast in America.  Not possible… the only chance I had was the Ashes to Ashes series finale while in London… thanks to transit schedules we made it back the hotel about 10 minutes AFTER it concluded.

While in Sibford Gower we would get back to the cottage, and sit back to relax, and amazingly enough BBC 4 would have something cerebral on… the first time was a history of the Poet Laureate, and another time was following the trail of Gawain from the poem “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”.  Its like when you are in the US and are stuck in your hotel room and, while you don’t care about tattoos you are mesmerized  and just can’t turn the silly box off.  I can say at least I know more about British poetry than I ever thought I could.  As a teacher, now when people ask me about the state of our educational system I might just have to reply that if we had smarter stuff on TV we might not have too much to worry about…
