So you might have noticed that in today’s comic I have done a few things differently. The funny thing some of this was the way I had originally intended the comic to be.  After last weekend (New York Comic Con and Web Comics Boot Camp) I decided I needed to take a little time and digest Scott & Brad’s suggestions.  The first thing I did was change the banner… Still working on that, I have another design (in my head) that might work better for me.  Then there was some changing on the process and this is where I needed to take some time to think.  Yes, blame Scott Kurtz & Brad Guigar for the comic not coming out last week- it had nothing to do with me procrastinating and having real work meetings, or being lazy- it’s ALL THEIR FAULT.

One thing that Scott mentioned was that hand lettering was an art (a dying art) and then talked about some cool places to get fonts and when the sales are for the really cool professional fonts.  I sat and listened, never questioning or commenting (that would be rude).  In May of 2009 when I first started this project I thought about how I was going to put everything together (words, pictures, color)  and was reminded of the 2005 San Diego Comic Con when I went to a Webcomics panel and heard the suggestion of copying a template to draw on and then scanning that into the computer. There were some other pieces, but I thought that would be a simple way to complete the task at hand especially since I would be transporting most of my studio with me.  Since then- that is what I have done.  While there has been a certain appeal to type my word balloons and work from there I never have because I simply didn’t want to lug a printer around with me along with everything else.

Today I decided I would try it… I’m not too upset with the way it turned out.  I kind of wish I had done this from the beginning.  SO what is the process.  I type up the content of my word balloons in Evil Genius BB from Blambot Fonts- print them out and then using a restickable glue stick I place the words where I want them, and draw the bubbles and characters around that.  Sue’s only comment – “Now I can read them.”  this concerns since she has been the one to proof or at least have some approval over what gets posted.

The other thing I have decided is I need to get on regular schedule which has been difficult since the start of school. I know if it is frustrating you as much as it is frustrating me its got to be- well, really frustrating!  So starting this week My Geek Odyssey will be going back to Monday, Wednesday, & Friday- still a lot compared to many webcomics out there.  I’m going to keep this going during the school year and then see what happens when Summer comes.  With the changes I’m still looking at implementing having a little time to work on them will hopefully make the end product something we all will be happy with.

See you on Wednesday!

ch, ch, ch, ch, changes…
