Right around the start of school Indianapolis hosts the largest gaming convention in… well it seems like the universe. When I was a kid growing up in Southern California I would hear about GenCon and always wanted to go. Now it is in my backyard and I feel obligated to go for at least a day. In the past it has always been the first week of school so I would head out on Sunday. This year I had the chance to head out for what is called “Trade Day” a pre con event set up for retailers & educators. I learned a bit about gaming in classroom and was able to play a few games. Was it worth the money? If I played more it was a great deal & I did get some very usable information. The downside for me- no breaks. from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM there was something scheduled that at least piqued my curiosity. The only other part that was kind of sad- the lack of elementary school teachers.  I am planning on setting up game days with my classroom this year- and I’ll report out how it works.
Con-wise I’m more of a comic book con kinda guy. I think as a geek I’m just not as social (if that sounds funny… it is.)  game geeks actually talk with others and socialize, comic book geeks really don’t need to have anyone around they (like me) are lost in their own little world.  I’m an introvert most of the time and only “embrace my inner Bob” when needed.
