Last year we missed GeoWoodstock (considered the most ginormous geocaching event in the known universe) because we were in England at MINI United.  I made a promise to Sue that we would go to the next one- no matter what.  So we flew out to Seattle and…

The thing is most geocaching events aren’t just one event and this was the case with GeoWoodstock.  There was an event on Wednesday (we missed) there was a Meet & Greet for listeners of Podcacher on Thursday (we barely made because we went to the Original Stash), there was the APE event, and a Meet & Greet on Friday, then the actual event on Saturday and a Geocoin event on Saturday night. So for those interested in the smiley count that’s a bunch.  A typical event might have two (meet & greet and the actual event).  All the happy faces aside it was a great event with a lot of things going on that we missed just because we were just taking it all in.  I don’t know what the final count was but there have been about 2,000 geocachers who logged their attendance.

As for vendors I only picked a few… there were more- I did pick up some shiny things for Cecil.  We helped out at the Podcacher booth since it was Sonny who introduced me to geocaching years ago at the NECC conference (now called ISTE).  As for pathtags… this was actually an observation from a fellow cacher that the folks who have pathtags (a tradable signature item) kind of ignore everything else in order to focus on trading.  I am one of those weird people who feel that the tagline “Who have you crossed paths with?” means I should have met you or we should have been in the same place sometime.  So unless I am a part of a group that is only for trading specific tags, I rarely send out tags for trade.  Just a philosophical difference if you want one of my tags- find a cache I’ve been to and cross your fingers.

All in all a great day and I would recommend the event to anyone who is interested in geocaching.  Next year it will be in Warren, PA- Nuff said.
