One problem with living in central Indiana is the lack of “twisties” aka interesting roads that are fun to drive.  Most counties set up their roads in a grid… so the only turns you get are at intersections- ugh!  A little further south towards the Ohio River- some nice curvy roads.

One thing I have noticed by attending various MINI event around the country (I’m sure there are some great events I’m missing-I know I still haven’t made it to MINIS in the Mountains in Colorado or MINIs on Top in New Hampshire just to name two) the majority have at least one drive and the instructions are simple.  The drive we took at AMVIV I think had six instructions one way and five on the way back.  Nice route and as a “Drive” you could do just that- drive and not worry too much about where and when to turn.

Quick vocabulary lesson for the uninitiated (my definitions- yours may vary):

  • Drive- (n) a circular route along interesting roads, optionally with a stop or two at an interesting place along the way.
  • Rally- (n) an event requiring multiple stops with an objective or game.  Prizes are usually awarded.  This could be finding certain signs, picking up something at various checkpoints, etc.

Drives are fairly simple to plan… still work but usually it has something to do with finding a nice road and going.  Rallies are complex and require a lot more prep time (they also tend to be a lot more fun for new MINI owners).

Did this really happen?  Sad to say but yes… I guess I should look at it as -if you can’t find twisty roads you can make them with enough intersections.  Sue and I did not attend this event – but that is a comic for another day.

I do apologize for the quality of today’s strip- technically.  Being on vacation we were lucky enough to get it out on time.  I will update the strip with a higher resolution (no you are not going blind the image is a little fuzzy) copy soon.
