One of the things that is great about going to a convention is being with people who don’t look at you funny.  I have spent most of my life opening my mouth and having people look at me like I just spoke and alien language (no I do not speak Klingon).  Going to a con allows folks like me to not have to worry about what we say or how we look.  I can wear a fez and all I get are people saying “Cool fez.”

Fine… so this is a pet peeve of mine.  There are people out there who thanks to some TV shows have decided to embrace geek culture… to a point.  They usually wear the geeky t-shirts of the kids they teased and beat up when they were kids- because it is “cool.”  So I’m pushing for a multiple stage quiz before you can get your badge.   Starting off with if you are wearing a pop culture shirt you should be able to say something about the reference.  A bunch of comic characters on the shirt- identify them.  Monty Python quote- you should be able to sing “the Lumberjack Song”  you get the idea.   Instead cons like San Diego get filled with a bunch of wannabe geeks who wouldn’t know Dr. Horrible from Dr. Who.  Sadly, one of my favorite quotes from this years Comic-Con was Wil Wheaton when he said “I remember going to Comic-Con when it was about comics.”
