Today marks the psuedo official end of my Lilly teacher Creativity Fellowship. Tonight I present about what I did to 24 other fellows and representatives from the Endowment. I have done this before 9 years ago, which doesn’t help much.

The last time I had to do this I had studied animation and created a short film. I was prepared to show my film to the audience that would have taken up the 3 minutes (Yes, I only have 3 minutes to tell about the entire summer). Unfortunately, being a tech guy, I came in early, checked the set up, hooked up my equipment and made sure it worked. As Murphy would have it, the person right before me, had no clue about the technology and that required me to pop up and tear down my set up making sure that theirs worked (A Scout is Helpful). As they finished I thought “OK as long as I’m not next I should be able to get this hooked back up” I was thinking this, just as my name was called. Being a rules oriented person (A Scout is Obedient), I looked at what I would need to do, and without even asking for extra time, winged it. I had a tape, but it would have taken me at least a minute to get it set up and with a bunch of people watching more like two minutes, so the cartoon I had spent all summer making, stayed in the camera.

This brings us to tomorrow… Part of me has storyboarded a video presentation, that deep down I know I won’t show because of some glitch. Then there’s Sue who reminds me that when I get nervous, I ramble and should have everything scripted so I can read it all. Whatever happens I’ll see if I can’t post the final result here- just make sure you have something to keep you awake.

  1. Ummmm, yup, this is more or less how it went.

  2. Bruce,

I read several of your comic strips and a few posts. Nice work. I’ll be back to read more. I may hit you up for some advice about doing a web comic. That’s something I want to do in the near future. Got to work a bit on the arrwork first.
