So I send everyone on their merry way to explore the State Museum and meet back for lunch. Some would think this then makes the day easy… they would be wrong. There are some advantages and (as I have said before) it is nice to be able to see everyone and keep them on track… sort of. I did start a group outside following the 92 county walk. For those who have not been to the Indiana State Museum the exterior is decorated with sculptures representing each county. For example- the county that Jim Davis (creator of Garfield) is from is a bunch of Ball jars filled with pickles except one that has Garfield in it. The county the Gus Grissom is from has a Mercury capsule… that kind of thing. It is a great way for students studying about Indiana’s history, to learn a bit about each county.
So I spend the morning wandering around taking pictures and keeping the kids on task as best I can. We meet together for lunch where I make sure they eat something and don’t just socialize the entire time, and then the students have about 90 minutes left to finish up their tour before we have to head back to school. Trips like this really help the kids experience firsthand what we are learning about. Unfortunately due to budget cuts a number of our trip had to be cut this year and there is the possibility of eliminating field trip next year.
Did I drop into the Ayres Tea Room for a bowl of their signature chicken velvet soup? I’m not saying a word…
