Let’s start this off with I was raised in Southern California… that means that a shirt that doesn’t have something imprinted on it is considered dressy.  I was a geek while growing up and would wear “nice” clothes.  That would translate to a shirt with a collar.  Sue grew up in the Midwest so her definition differs than mine. One Thanksgiving we spent in California Sue was kind of shocked by what people were wearing- I shrugged my shoulders, “It’s clean.”   This comic is a long time in the making and the joke has been repeated over and over.  It seems like every time we go to visit Sue’s family I feel like I have packed wrong.  “Casual” Sue says so I pack using my definition of casual which doesn’t seem to match.  We go out and I’m thinking I look like a slob.  What will I pack this year… I’m still deciding.

Oh, and I do own a tux.  It was one of those things that Sue had a dinner she had to go to for her work.  Since the event was in New York, renting a tux would have been a little pricey, so I own a tux.  I do wear it sometimes, and as someone once told me- you wear a tux usually at night and the style is pretty common so as long as you don’t change your size- it’s yours for life!

  1. Folk here in the Midwest dress quite classy, compared to where *I* was born and raised! 🙂

  2. No tuxes necessary. People might think you’re the maitre d’! A sport coat will do…no tie!

  3. NO tux!! Sportcoat OK! But, I don’t remember how to tie a tie, thus forget it.
    I bet you didn’t know I do have a pair of jeans…
